14 Companies In HCM City Halt Production
At least 14 companies in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, including 10 which have major foreign investment, have stopped production this year due to the global financial turmoil, the VnExpress reported Thursday.
As a result, more than 4,000 workers have been laid off, said the report, which cited a source at the city’s labor department.
They include six garment companies and four footwear companies, the report said.
Taiwan’s Silverstar Co. has laid off the most number of people, with 1,000 workers losing their job, followed by South Korea’s Vina Heangwoon Industry Co. with 680 workers, it added. (Dow Jones)
