Cashew Export Down Over 22 per cent in January
VNBusinessNews – Viet Nam was estimated to export 12,000 tons of cashew nuts worth US$55 million in the first month of 2009, down 20.2% on year in volume and 22.2% in value, latest report from the General Statistics Office (GSO) showed.
The country is expected to export 175,000 tons of cashew nuts in 2009, with total revenue of US$875 million, an increase of 6.55% in value but decrease of 3.25% in value from 2008.
As of late 2008, local companies had 30,000 tons of nuts worth VND4.6 trillion in stock.
Last year, 203 Vietnamese exported 167,000 tons of cashew nuts, earning US$920 million, up 9.1% on year in volume and 40.6% in value.
Vietnamese cashew nuts were selling for US$5,423 a ton on average.
Among 83 importing countries in 2008, up five countries from 2007, the U.S. was the biggest, followed by China, Holland, Britain, Russia and Canada.
