Dong Thap set for sweet orange crop

With the harvest season beginning, Dong Thap province seems to be heading for a bumper orange crop this year due to favourable weather conditions.

The average yield is 40-50 tonnes per ha, an increase of 5-10% over last year, according orange farmers.

The crop is expected to fetch a profit of 200 million VND (11.764 USD) per ha.

Many farmers in the districts of Lap Vo and Lai Vung are exporting their fruits to Cambodia ahead of Tet.

Trinh Thi Loan, a trader selling oranges to the neighbouring country, said Cambodians have developed a taste for Vietnamese oranges this year.

She has already sold 15-20 tonnes of the fruit with prices higher than last year.
