EU wants to conduct FTA negotiations with Vietnam
The European Union (EU) wants to conduct separate negotiations with Viet Nam, Thailand and Singapore in order to sign bilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with these countries.
The statement was made by Philippe Meyer, Head of the EU’s Free Trade Agreement negotiation mission during his recent visit to Thailand.
Mr Meyer said that it will take at least ten years to conduct FTA negotiations with all ASEAN member countries, so some of ASEAN countries will be given the authority to hold separate FTA negotiations with the EU at the upcoming ASEAN Summit to be held in Thailand. The topic will be discussed at the ASEAN-EU Joint Committee in Malaysia in March.
After the EU signs FTAs with Thailand, Singapore and Viet Nam, these agreements will help establish links with other ASEAN countries to conduct FTA negotiations with the EU. (VOV)
