FDI attraction reaches over US$200m in Jan
In January, this year, Viet Nam attracted only US$200 million of newly registered foreign direct investment (FDI) capital, a 8.5 fold decrease from the same period last year and equal to 18% of the total FDI capital invested in Viet Nam last December, according to Phan Huu Thang, head of Foreign Investment Department under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The figure was US$1.7 billion, in January 2008, a five fold increase against the same period in 2007.
Mostly licensed FDI projects in January are small in size ranging from US$3 million to US$3.5 million a project. Out of which, the largest FDI project is worth US$20 million in the industrial sector.
The disbursed FDI capital ratio in the first month of this year reached only 70% in comparison with the same period last year.
In 2008, Vietnam’s attracted a record FDI of US$64 billion, disbursed FDI capital ratio reached US$11.5 billion and FDI capital scope gained US$60 million a project.
