Integrating e-Government and public administration procedures reform

This was the main theme of the sixth annual Viet Nam e-Government Symposium (Vietnam e-Government 2008), which took place in Hanoi on Dec. 16-17, aimed at increasing the management capacity of State agencies and boosting the administrative reform process.

The event, co-organised by the National Steering Committee on Information and Technology and the International Data Group (IDG Vietnam), focused on changing the execution of e-Government in line with public administration reform rather than just computerisation.

“E-Government execution plays an important role in public administration reform,” said Le Thanh Tam, general director of IDG Viet Nam. “The aim is the best public services for enterprises and citizens as well as better Government performance.”

Tam said the e-Gov Symposium 2008 was expected to increase determination and innovation in strategic planning and execution from the Government. This is also the first symposium to focus on integrating e-Government and public administration reform.

The symposium aims to create a platform for discussion and a proposal on how e-Government should be executed, hand in hand with public administration reform. E-Government implementation plays an important part in the public administration reform strategy for improving government performance as well as providing the best public services for enterprises and citizens.

The presence of top State leaders from the National Steering Committee on Information and Technology, the Ministry of Information and Communications, relevant ministries, as well as local authorities demonstrates the strong determination of the Government in e-Government innovation, strategic planning and execution in the coming periods.

Participants focus on discussing issues relating to information technology (IT) infrastructure, the Internet and the national database for e-Government, International experience on architecture, interoperability and standards and Information security.

Alongside with the symposium, an exhibition of technological solutions and products for e-Government implementation has been held to introduce leading international groups & companies, such as Nortel, Cisco, Jaspers, and Nod32.

The event drew 1,000 attendees, including Government leaders, high-ranking officials of various agencies and representatives of corporations, enterprises and associations in the IT industry. (VOV)
