Minister: 94 SOEs 2008 Revenues up 30 percent On Year to US$61.775 Mln

VNBusinessNews – Ninety four state-owned enterprises, which reportedly contribute 40 per cent of Vietnam’s GDP, had made revenues of VND1.044 trillion (US$61.775 million) last year, up over 30 per cent on year and surpassing 118 per cent of the year’s target, Minister of Finance Vu Van Ninh told a government meeting on February 4.

Minister Ninh did not specify profit figures of those SOEs.

However, Minister Ninh noted that those firms accounted for 39.5 per cent of the country’s industrial production value, over 50 per cent of Vietnam’s exports and contributed 28.8 per cent of the tax incomes collected from domestic companies.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged to solve shortcomings of SOEs over the past months and tasked them to play a key role of the backbone of the national economy and help to combat economic slowdown.
