Rail link to border province gets upgraded

The Vietnam Railway Company launched the construction of a bridge in Chi Lang district, Lang Son province, on January 30 as part of a 641 billion VND project to upgrade a railway linking capital Hanoi with the northern border province.

The project will replace all the wooden ties with concrete along the main 144 km-long track and upgrade 19 temporary bridges that now limit train speeds at less than 30 kph.

Once completed in May this year, the Dong Mo bridge with the construction cost estimated at 12.6 billion VND will help increase train speeds to 70 kph from the current limit of 40 kph.

So far, six of the 10 sub-projects of the Hanoi-Lang Son railway upgrading package have been completed at a total cost of 237 billion VND. (VNA)
