US-Vietnam trade up 23.6 pct in 2008
VNBusinessNews – Two-way trade between the US and Vietnam last year hit nearly US$15.3 billion, up 23.6% compared to 2007’s figure, the US Department of Commerce announced.
Of the total figure, Vietnamese exports fetched US$12.6 billion, a year-on-year rise of 19.6 percent, while US exports notched up US$2.67 billion, up 46.6%.
Garments topped the list of Vietnamese exports to the US, earning US$5.27 billion and increasing by 19.97%, followed by wooden products (US$1.46 billion and up 18.5%) and footwear (US$1.21 billion and up 17.5%).
Toys and sports equipment brought in the lowest export earnings of only US$81 million, ranking 15th on the list.
Meanwhile, cars and other means of transport topped the list of US exports to Vietnam, raking in US$322 million, up 30 percent. However, foodstuff exports achieved a record high growth, nearly trebling, to reach US$230 million.
