Vietnam still optimistic, says Grant Thornton

Vietnam’s optimistic economic outlook ranks 7th amongst 36 countries and territories, said Grant Thornton International Ltd on January 5.

The Grant Thornton International Business Report shows optimism in Viet Nam which has fallen from +87 to +31 but, as major world economies enter into recession, Viet Nam remains one of the most optimistic countries in the world.

Their macro view of the world economic stage explains the overall slump in optimism, but while privately held businesses are preparing for a prolonged and painful downturn, those in the emerging economies realise that at their own micro level it could offer real opportunities,” said Kenneth Atkinson, Managing Partner of Grant Thornton Viet Nam.

In 2008, Grant Thornton conducted a survey on Vietnamese private enterprises, concluding that Vietnam ranked third on optimism after India and the Philippines.

Vietnam’s economic growth has remained strong in 2008 despite slowing down since 2007.

Grant Thornton International Ltd is an organisation of independently owned and managed accounting and consulting firms, which started to operate in Viet Nam in 1993. (VNA)
