Vinashin asked to promote image abroad
VNBusinessNews – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) to operate more efficiently to form the backbone of the country’s shipbuilding industry and promote its image abroad.
At a working session with Vinashin executives in Hanoi on February 11, Mr Dung recalled the wisdom of the Party and State’s policy of developing mechanical engineering initiated 13 years ago and affirmed that the profession plays a vital role in the process of national industrialisation and modernisation.
He noted that with priority given to developing the shipbuilding industry, Vietnam has been acknowledged internationally for its skills. The group has gradually completed its management structure, developed human resources to meet international standards, and expanded its support industries, creating tens of thousands of jobs.
The PM praised the group for its outstanding achievements in 2008, saying that despite national and global economic difficulties, it generated high revenue and profit, ensuring stable incomes for its workers.
He asked the group to overcome shortcomings, including unstable finances, scattered investment and incomplete operating mechanism, to become a pioneer in the country’s shipbuilding industry.
He requested relevant ministries and Vinashin to re-examine its medium- and long-term development plans to cut unnecessary projects and pour investment into key areas.
Mr Dung and other ministers answered Vinashin executives’ questions relating to its finances, capital ownership, loans and personnel training. (VOV)
