VNPT invests 1 bln USD in faster internet services

VNBusinessNews – The Viet Nam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) has announced that it is to invest around 1 billion USD in developing its broadband network and expanding its international bandwidth this year in an effort to further improve the quality of its internet services.

According to VNPT, Viet Nam Datacommunications (VDC), a VNPT subsidiary, will launch two new STM 16 transmission lines during 2009 in order to double the working capacity of its international internet lines.

The majority of the new internet lines will run on an international optical cable line, AAG, which provides a direct connection between Southeast Asia and the US , according to VDC, Vietnam’s largest internet service provider (ISP).

To date, VDC has upgraded its international internet transmission capacity to 32 Gbps (Gigabytes per second) and manages up to 60% of Vietnam’s international internet bandwidth.

By the end of 2008, VNPT boasted more than 1.3 million ADSL subscribers, accounting for 60% of the country’s total number of ADSL users.

It’s long-established fixed line network, together with the national broadband network, enables VNPT to act as the sole provider of ADSL services in every district across the country. (VNA)
