Spartanburg County man gets long-lost Vietnam dog tag back
Enclosed was a letter, some articles and a small plastic bag. It was the contents of that plastic bag they had tried to emotionally prepare for.Inside was the dog tag Bob lost more than 40 years ago in Vietnam.Julia at his side, Bob clutched the dulled piece of metal in his hand. They were newlyweds when Bob arrived in Da Nang in August 1966. For the next year, he served as a field medical corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps.Bob is unsure when he lost the dog tag. He suspects it was in the heat of battle. Injured soldiers often grabbed onto him as he moved from person to person and administered care. Perhaps someone pulled it from his neck. Maybe it fell off as he loaded an injured Marine into a chopper.
