Interview with Toan Le, manager

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: My family emigrated from Vietnam back in 1993 with the hopes of starting a new life. We got involved in the business through my mother’s passion for cooking, my father’s entrepreneurial spirit, and their children’s strong work ethic and ability to work as a close, cohesive team.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We prepare every meal to order, use only the freshest ingredients, and make everything from scratch. This means no powders, mixes or cheats. We take pride in the fact that throughout our 13 — going on 14 — years in the business, we have never utilized MSG (nor do we plan to) in any of our dishes. We do this because our recipes are unique, and we feel that our customers deserve an unparalleled dining experience that meets my mother’s stringent expectations.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: We really enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and the friendships that have developed as a result. We also take pride in seeing the satisfaction that individual customers and large groups leave with after each and every meal, an experience that brings people back time and time again.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Our biggest challenge is keeping up with demand. Because we are a family run business and all our dishes are made from scratch, it can be difficult to keep up when the restaurant is filled to capacity. We manage this through teamwork and the multi-tasking abilities of my two sisters, who maintain roles as simultaneous waitresses and cooks.

A: Every individual that works at Golden Saigon is a member of the Le family.
