Vietnam Airlines is reportedly looking to expand its operations in Asia, Europe, the Pacific and Atlantic, increasing its fleet expansion plans by an extra 64 aircraft.
A proposal sent to the Ministry of Transportation outlined that the additional aircraft would more than double the airline’s fleet over the coming eight years with new aircraft likely to be added on routes to Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar as well as Europe, Pacific and across the Atlantic, MCOT reported.
Although last year, the country’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved a growth from 85 aircraft in 2015 to 107 by 2020, new plans set the aircraft to grow from 112 aircraft in 2015 to over 171 by 2020.
As well as aircraft growth, the airline is also said to have put forth a proposal to expand its domestic and international routes over the same period of time.
Currently Vietnam Airlines has a fleet of up to 75 aircraft and travels on 47 international and 38 domestic routes.
